On March 26, 2024 the Cherokee Nation presented a check in the amount of $29,587.65 to Webbers Falls Public School in their continued commitment to support public schools in the Cherokee Nation. This money was part of $7.9 million dollars that was presented to 107 different schools that reside within the Cherokee Nation. This money comes from collections of the Cherokee Nation Car tags where 0.38 cents of every dollar collected goes towards public education.
In the past four years, Webbers Falls Public School has used this money to add new computers to our computer labs and for capital improvements by asphalting our parking lots. In the fall of 2021, we began an afterschool program focusing on learning loss and enrichment for the student’s Pre-K - 8th grade. This program has been highly successful for our students and helped ease a burden for parents in our community that work and use this afterschool program for child care. The money that was used to pay for this program came from the Federal ESSR grant that was given to all schools after the pandemic. The Federal ESSR money goes away as of September this year. Understanding the importance to continue the afterschool program for our students and community, we have decided to ear mark this money from the Cherokee Nation to help pay for this invaluable program for the 2024-2025 school year. We cannot thank the Cherokee Nation enough for what they do for the students of Webbers Falls Public School.
In December of this school year the Car Tag Tribal compact between Cherokee Nation and the State of Oklahoma comes up. Please you reach out to our state representatives and let them how we use this money and know how important this compact is to our school.
